TERIES have been warned to expect road closures this weekend as Santa heads into Hawick to turn on its Christmas lights.

Both Oliver Place and Oliver Crescent will be closed to vehicles on Saturday (December 3), from 6am to 7pm.

The alternative eastbound route will be via Oliver Crescent and Croft Road with the alternative northbound route at Oliver Place via Bourtree Place, Mart Street, Duke Street and North Bridge Street.

A Christmas market will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm, with entertainment from 1pm onwards – including performances by both the Scout Pipe Band and the Saxhorn Band, before Santa Claus switches on the lights at 4pm.

Gift selection boxes will be handed out to children aged 12 and under by Santa and his elves.
