A NIGHTCLUB reveller who admitted a drink-driving offence has been banned from the road for 12 months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Lewis McGuigan, who gave an address in Jedburgh, pleaded guilty to driving with a breath/alcohol count of 40 microgrammes – the legal limit being 22 – in Overhaugh Street, Galashiels, during the early hours of October 30.

The court was told McGuigan was seen under the influence of alcohol leaving the Indigo Rooms and his vehicle which had been parked in the street was later moved.

Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said the ground worker had been out with friends in Galashiels and intended to stay over.

He added that he moved his vehicle to avoid being blocked in the next day and had moved it to another spot but police caught up with him.

Sheriff Peter Paterson told him: “You will appreciate the foolishness of all this.”

In addition to the 12-month ban, he was fined £350 and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
