CHRISTMAS officially arrived in Kelso at the weekend.

The town was full of light and laughter for the switch-on event on Saturday.

Counting down the days till the big night, organisers and their ‘elves’ were busy getting all the final details ready to make the switch-on a spectacular event.

The Men’s Shed Christmas workshop was busy getting the Junction Boat Santa Sleigh ready, and the crafters of The Wonky Giraffe created wonderful knitted decorations for the town’s post boxes.

On Saturday, the community gathered together from 4.30pm to enjoy live music, entertainment, the children’s funfair, and all the local food and drink on offer to help keep them warm.

Little ones also got the chance to meet Father Christmas in his grotto as he visited the town to hear their Christmas wishes before turning on the lights at 6pm.

This year the town had four extra potted trees in the square, with residents invited to make their own decorations and share them with the community. Some decorations were also to remember loved ones no longer here.

Following the switch-on, a spokesperson for Kelso Christmas Lights said: “On behalf of the Kelso Christmas Lights I’d like to thank everyone who have been supporting and involved in getting Kelso square looking good.”
