A MAGICAL day was had in Selkirk as its festive celebrations kicked off at the weekend.

On Saturday, the town was buzzing as people flocked to enjoy the Christmas market, fun fair and Santa’s Grotto before the evening’s switch-on event.

A section of the High Street was closed to allow for fair ground rides while the Market Square was full of stalls selling a range of crafts, gifts and tasty treats.

And while people browsed or waited for the chance to meet Father Christmas, community councillor Ed Strang Steel provided a day of festive tunes.

A spokesperson from Brighter Selkirk, the group behind the switch-on event, said on social media: “Thank you to our fab stewards and Ed Strang Steel for all their help today, much appreciated.

“The lights are now on and we have a couple of areas to fix before Xmas so please bear with us.”
