THE Spartans came from behind to record a deserved 3-1 victory over Gala Fairydean Rovers at Netherdale last night.

The match, which was sponsored by anti-sectarian charity Nil By Mouth, kicked off in freezing cold conditions with torrential rain and a strong wind.

After an evenly fought first-half, Gala went in at the break one nil up thanks to a headed goal from skipper Gareth Rodger.

But the Edinburgh side fought back and a goalkeeping error from Ryan Goodfellow five minutes after the restart resulted in an equaliser from Michael Allan.

The Spartans continued to press forward and Allan scored his second of the night with 15-minutes remaining.

Then two minutes later Jamie Dishington wrapped things up for The Spartans and the three points went to the capital.

The victory sees The Spartans move up to fourth place in the table with Gala remaining in 11th place.

Next up for Gala is a trip to Berwick on Hogmanay.

A full match report will appear in next week’s Border Telegraph.
