GALA Fairydean Rovers walking footballer Jim Watters was one of more than one hundred thrill-seekers that braved freezing temperatures to take the plunge into the North Sea at Spittal on Boxing Day.

Jim was one of the founder members of the GFR Walking Football Club in 2016 and continues to play for the team despite moving to Berwick.

With hundreds of supporters watching from the shore, along with volunteers from the RNLI, the ‘dookers’ ran into the sea accompanied by the sound of bagpipes from piper Andrew Smith.

This was the second year that Jim had braved the North Sea.

Last year he did it to raise money for a number of local charities but this year’s dip was to raise money for the My name’5 Doddie Foundation.

He said: “There are better hangover cures but I’d like to thank everyone that donated.”
