LAST month, dancers from a Borders dance school took over the Eastgate Theatre for three sell-out shows.

Senior performers from the Fiona Henderson School of Dance (FHSD) put on their 2022 showcase Time to Dance which was “an impressive and technical ‘tour-de-force’”.

The showcase featured a range of dance styles including ballet, commercial, tap, Highland and jazz – all choreographed to a variety of musical tracks.

Dance school principal Fiona Henderson said: “We were delighted to bring Time to Dance to the stage.

“This year’s show was probably the most technically varied and complex we’ve ever produced in our 38-year history.

“After weeks of class tuition and rehearsals our senior pupils really excelled on stage, and I was delighted with their performances.

“We’ve had some amazing feedback from all our audiences which included family members and friends, former pupils, some of our adults who take dance classes with us, along with members of the public who also came to watch the shows.”

Then the dance school’s youngest stars took to the stage.

Dancers aged between three and five years old took part in an uplifting performance of ballet, tap and acrobatic dances as part of This is the Life.

Audiences, full of family and friends, were delighted by the youngsters’ talents.

Ms Henderson added: “Our Little Stars Show is always a joyous occasion for our youngest dancers – it is the first time they have ever been on the theatre stage and with all that entails including the loud music, lighting and stage curtains and then being faced with a packed audience watching them.

“They did so incredibly well and we’ve ever so proud of them all.”

The FHSD, a multi-award winning school, has more than 500 pupils across its eight branches in the Borders – Peebles, Biggar, Melrose, Galashiels, Jedburgh, Hawick and Kelso.
