GALA Fairydean Rovers produced their best performance of the season to beat Lowland League title favourites Celtic B at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie yesterday.

The last time the pair met, Celtic took the points thanks to a late winner in a seven goal thriller at Netherdale.

And Darren O’Dea’s men went into the game on the back of an excellent 3-0 win over Open Goal Broomhill last weekend whilst Gala’s last game ended in a 4-0 home defeat to Caledonian Braves.

But the Borderers demonstrated their ability by outplaying their full time rivals and coming away with a hugely impressive 4-2 victory.

Gala boss Martin Scott gave debuts to two signings, goalkeeper Ruairidh Adams who is on loan from Dundee United and Gospel Ocholi who is on loan from Partick Thistle.

Quinn Mitchell opened the scoring for Gala in 23rd minute then Allan Smith doubled Gala’s lead six minutes later.

Joey Dawson pulled one back for the Hoops four minutes before the break.

Gala restored their two goal advantage with a goal from Lewis hall in the 45th minute and the same player made it 4-1 ten minutes later.

Two minutes after that Dawson scored his second of the day from the penalty spot.

But Gala managed the game to a successful conclusion and have now taken the scalps of both Glasgow giants, having beaten Rangers 2-1 at Netherdale on the day the stand reopened.

Afterwards Scott described the performance as “outstanding from the whole team.”
