IN a bid to explore Scotland's best food festivals, BBC Scotland visited a Borders show, highlighting some of the best local produce in the region.

Food Fest Scotland sees presenters Edith Bowman and Colin Murray visiting food festivals across Scotland uncovering some of the country's best kept foodie secrets.

In the first episode of the five-part series, Bowman and Murray head to Peebles Show and sample some of the "top grub" on offer.

As well as tasting some of the best produce the Borders has to offer, they also get to know some cooking and shopping tips.

Bowman said: “Nestled in the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders, Peebles has for many years been a market town cherished by locals and visitors alike.”

She added that she had loved her visit to Peebles.

“It has been a fantastic day," she said.

In the programme too, farmer Jim Smith and chef Julie Lin share stories of food production from all over the country.

In episode one Smith is near Inverness learning about the story behind every bag of carrots, and Lin shares the benefits of mackerel.

Later episodes of the show will see Bowman and Murray visit food festivals in Stranraer, Anstruther, Glasgow, and Nairn.

Food Fest Scotland will air on Monday, February 6 at 8.30pm on BBC 1 Scotland.
