A 55-YEAR-OLD woman admitted assaulting two police constables during an incident at her home in Hawick’s Drumlanrig Court.

Fiona Peddie pleaded guilty to kicking the two officers on the body and attempting to bite one of them on the hand in the early hours of October 27.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard a 999 call had been made from her home due to concern about an injury the accused had sustained.

Police officers arrived before an ambulance which upset Peddie who had a cut on her left eyebrow which was bleeding.

Fiscal Fiona Hamilton said: “She was shouting and swearing at the officers who were trying to keep the peace.

“She stood up and pushed the officers who were trying to reason with her. She began to kick the officers and she had to be further restrained as they handcuffed her as she continued to struggle.”

The fiscal said Peddie appeared to calm down but then suddenly tried to bite the hand of one of the officers who managed to pull it away just in time.

Defence lawyer Liam Alexander said: “She had phoned for an ambulance to attend but it was the police came first. She felt this was being treated as a domestic assault.

“She had had a couple of vodkas and has extremely poor, if no, liver function and with the combination of her drinking and on medication she had fallen and cut her head.

“She was annoyed with the way the police were dealing with the matter but accepts her conduct was unacceptable.”

Peddie, who have an address in Prestonpans, was fined £250 with a £20 victim surcharge.
