A 56-year-old MAN was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow following an accident in a Borders forest yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Glenbenna Forest, near Walkerburn around shortly after 4pm on Monday February 6 following reports that a VOLVO dumper truck had fallen down a steep embankment.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised two appliances and other specialist resources to the area.

Four ambulances, a Resuscitation Rapid Response Unit (3RU) and a trauma team were also dispatched to the scene.

A Helimed air ambulance landed at Walkerburn Rugby Club, and a man was subsequently airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

His condition is not known.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 16:09 on 6 February 2023 to attend an incident at Glenbenna Forest, near Walkerburn in the Scottish Borders.

“Four ambulances, a Resuscitation Rapid Response Unit (3RU) and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene.  

“A patient was transported by Helimed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow. “

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We supported emergency service partners at an incident at Glenbenna Forest, near Walkerburn in the Scottish Borders.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and other specialist resources to the area after the alarm was raised at 4.20pm on Monday, February 6.

“One casualty was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4pm on Monday, 6 February, 2023, officers were called to reports of a VOLVO dumper truck that went over a banking in Glenbenna Forest, Walkerburn.

“A 56-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.”
