A PEEBLES netballer has received an international call-up.

Ruby Maclean – who plays for the district, as well as the town’s club and high school – has been selected to represent Scotland at the U17 European Championships.

Coach Clare McNab hailed Maclean’s “fabulous attitude” ahead of the tournament in Northern Ireland later this month.

She said: “Ruby’s hard work and dedication with her netball is testament to the fact that if you put your heart and soul into something it will pay off.

“She never misses a training session and as well as representing her district she plays for Peebles High School, Peebles Netball Club, the Stuart Netball Club and her district.

“She’s got a fabulous attitude and we will all be rooting her on in Belfast.”

Maclean was selected for the international contest following a ‘gruelling’ trials process.

It will take place from February 23-26 and will involve European Championship and Challenge events. Across the four days, 10 countries will face off across the competitions.

Scotland will be competing alongside England, Wales, Northern Ireland and UAE.

Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Republic of Ireland, Switzerland and Northern Ireland Development will be involved in the challenge section.

The Europe Netball event is the pinnacle of the U17 calendar and will be the first taste of international match play for many of the athletes involved.
