A BORDERS man involved in a series of offences during the past three years has been jailed for a total of 18 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Fifty-four-year-old James Markie had a number of sentence deferred cases against him in order that he could prove he could be of good behaviour.

But on January 17 in Jedburgh Terrace, Denholm, he admitted a breach of the peace repeatedly shouting and swearing, acting in an aggressive manner, uttering threats to kill himself, setting a duvet alight whereby it went on fire and then lying within the duvet.

He also pleaded guilty on the same complaint to throwing items of furniture around his home in Murray Place on December 11 and uttering threats of violence for which he received a total sentence of four months jail.

Markie was given 10 months in prison for struggling with three police officers and spitting at them in September 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic and exposing them to the risk of catching the virus.

In another deferred sentence dating back to July 2021, Markie was given another four months custody for being in possession of a bladed article on the A698 road near Denholm.

The prison sentences were back-dated to February 14.
