THE Borders will celebrate International Women's Day with an afternoon of comedy.

Organised by A Woman's Perspective – a creative platform founded by Unit 4: The Cornucopia Room special projects manager Julie Witford, and Scottish Borders LGBT Equality trustee Susan Hart – Women In Standup will give performers a space to share their experiences of being a woman.

The event, which will be held on Sunday, March 5, will feature six comedians in a celebration of International Women's Day (March 8).

Susan said: "2019 saw the highly successful Women Writers for International Women's Day (IWD) and now for 2023 IWD we are holding Women In Standup, which is an event we have wanted to do for a couple of years now and we are really looking forward to.

"We have six diverse women coming along who, as well as their comedy routine, will be taking part in a panel discussion around the highs and lows of being female in a perceived male environment.

"The event is strictly women only and this year, as well as being supported by Scottish Borders Rape Crisis Centre – which has backed each event every year – we will be part funded by Unison the Scottish Borders Branch who will be encouraging women to join the union.

"We hope that women enjoy the day and that it provides a safe space to chat, make friends and in particular laugh."

The day will be compered by Bonnie Fairbrass, and will include fellow comedians Viv Gee, Lubna Kerr, Amelia Bayler, Giulia Galastro, and Jane Walker.

The event which is open to all women – including trans women – and non-binary people, will also include a panel discussion as well as food and refreshments.

A Woman's Perspective's first event at Unit Four was held on December 4, 2018, to mark 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence.

All seated tickets have sold out, however there are standing tickets still available.

Tickets are free, with a suggested donation of £5, and can be bought on the door.

Women In Standup will be held on Sunday, March 5 from 2-5pm ath Unit 4: The Cornucopia Room in Hawick.

This event is for people aged 18 and over.
