PARENTS have been asked to help police after a “group of youths” smashed a window and damaged play equipment at a Borders school.

The vandalism at Burnfoot Primary, Hawick, is reported to have happened between 6.30pm-8pm on Thursday (March 2).

Parents have been asked to help officers by “taking an interest in where their children have been and who they are with”.

Police Sergeant Alison Granger said: “We believe there was a group of 10-15 youths on the school premises which resulted in the damage.

“We know that anti-social behaviour in our local communities causes concern.

“For this very reason, I am appealing to parents to assist us in taking an interest in where their children have been and who they are with.

“Positive engagement with young people is key to reducing incidents, and we work closely with local schools in an effort to deter this type of behaviour.

“Anyone with any information should call police on 101 quoting 0703 of March 3 or speak to any police officer.

“Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
