A 14-YEAR-OLD Peeblesshire girl will perform in a special anniversary concert at London's Royal Albert Hall next month. at a 40th Anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London next month.

Kirsty Macdonald, of Innerleithen, will travel down to Tonbridge in Kent with the National Youth Girls Choir of Great Britain (NYCGB).

This will be the second time she has performed with the choir after successfully auditioning for a place in 2021.

Kirsty said: "I am really looking forward to travelling to London at Easter. To have the opportunity to perform with the NYCGB at the Royal Albert Hall is an amazing opportunity for me.

“It is also a great privilege to be able to sing with so many other talented voices. I’m sure it will be an evening I will never forget.”

Mum Rachael added: “We are very proud of Kirsty’s achievements. She works exceptionally hard and gives up a lot of her free time after school and during her school holidays to train for something that she is passionate about.“

The concert will celebrate the 40th anniversary of national youth choirs of Great Britain.

When Kirsty gets back from London it’s straight back to rehearsals for her school show, Little Shop of Horrors, in which she is playing the female lead, Audrey.

Kirsty is currently in her third year at Loretto School in Musselburgh and was previously a pupil at St Mary's in Melrose. Before that she attended St Ronan’s Primary School.

She began dancing when she was three and her love of singing and musical theatre began when she joined KIYT (Kids Innerleithen Youth Theatre) when she was eight.

During school holidays she trains with Stagebox which is a UK performing arts group.

She will spend the first two weeks of July training with the group in Edinburgh.

The last two weeks of July will be spent, along with younger brother Andrew, with The Beyond Broadway Experience rehearsing and taking part in a production of Bring It On at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh. This will be the fifth Beyond Broadway show that Kirsty has taken part in.

On a weekly basis she dances at Creative Stage in Selkirk whilst fitting in lessons in singing (her teacher is Claire Thomas), piano and percussion.
