POLICE in the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses and asking bike owners to be vigilant following the theft of E-Mountain Bike (Photo above) which took place about 5pm on Sunday April 2 22023 from the Playpark at Innerleithen.
Officers say that two males were observed in the area, one described as mid 30’s to 40, around 5ft 6, medium build, no facial hair with greying dark brown hair, wearing black Nike Air Jordan hoodie, oversized black jogging bottoms and black trainers.

This male was observed pushing the E-bike and then placing it into the back of a vehicle, possibly a Dark Blue Volkswagen Touareg / Tiguan 2.
Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident no 2694 of 2nd April 2023.
Officers have issued the following crime prevention advice –
Always use two good quality locks, at least one of which is a D-lock, to secure your bike even when stored inside a garage.

As a ‘rule of thumb’ look to spend at least 10% of the value of the bike on security. Secure your bike to the fabric of the garage or shed using a ground anchor and heavy chain and ALWAYS lock the door.
Photograph your bike and record all of your bike’s details and distinguishing features and keep in a safe place.
The serial number can be found on the bottom bracket. Consider using a bike registration scheme such as ‘Bike Register’ to mark your bicycle.
Not only is this a deterrent to thieves but should you be unlucky enough to have your bicycle stolen it increases the chances of getting your bicycle back.

Always buy the best quality lock you can afford and look out for those that have been endorsed as ‘Sold Secure’ or ‘Secured by Design.’
