A 32-YEAR-OLD man caught driving out of the Borders with a stolen mountain bike in the back of his van has been given a night-time home curfew at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Police were waiting for the vehicle at Leadburn after receiving a tip-off shortly before midnight on November 28.
The e-bike, which was valued at £6,000, had been taken during an earlier break-in at a shop in Innerleithen.
Jamie Stewart, who gave an address in Edinburgh, admitted a reduced charge of reset.
Defence lawyer Ed Hulme, said an associate, who knew his client had a van, asked Stewart to transport the item for him – and he did so without asking any questions.
Sheriff Peter Paterson warned Stewart it was a “serious matter”, and said he had no doubt he knew what he was doing.
He gave him a community payback order, with 12 months supervision.
Stewart was also given a Restriction of Liberty Order keeping him at home between the hours of 7pm to 7am for six months, as a direct alternative to custody.
