“At this time, during the cost of living crisis, high levels of food inflation and the unprecedented rise in energy bills the vital work of the delivery of food to families by the volunteers at the Galashiels Foodbank has never been more important. “As a volunteer community based organisation ourselves we know the challenges they face and are only too happy to provide these Easter Eggs for children whose families are struggling at this time.

“It is part of a longstanding commitment, since our formation in 2020, to support the Foodbank and its work."

New Galashiels and Area chair Liz Williams who recently took over from John Tucker was delighted to receive the chocolate and thanked the trust for their generosity.

She said: “The Galashiels and Area Foodbank were delighted to receive the gift of a number of chocolate Easter Eggs kindly donated by Gala Fairydean Rovers Community Trust.

“This gift arrived at just the right moment as it meant we were able to send out all the donated eggs to those receiving or collecting food parcels from us this week.

“Judging from the reaction of the four year old, who I handed an egg to, they would have been well received with open arms and excited faces!

“We are always enormously grateful, and suitably humbled, by the way this community seeks to help those amongst them who are finding the current cost of living more than they can manage.

“None of us finds it easy as prices go up, but some face added difficulties with energy costs and reduced wages.

“So thank you to the Gala team and to all those who contribute with food donations at various drop off points and to those who give financially on a regular basis.

“A year ago this week we distributed 42 bags of dry and 42 bags of fresh food: this week it was 111 and 115. Those figures sadly speak for themselves.”
