AROUND 150 carers from across the Scottish Borders gathered for a thank you event at Kelso Race Course on Monday April 17.

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, who is president of The Carers Trust and known for her work supporting vital care charities, was present for part of the day and spoke with a number of the carers.

Also present were Council Convener, Cllr Watson McAteer and Council Leader, Cllr Euan Jardine.

The event was organised to thank carers from a number of organisations from across the Scottish Borders for their dedication and to recognise the importance of their commitment to the community as a whole.

Councillor Tom Weatherston, Executive Member for Social Work & Community Enhancement said: “We are delighted to be joined by The Princess Royal at our celebration event.

“The care that Carers offer is essential for both the people they support and their families, they worked tirelessly through and under difficult circumstances during the pandemic going above and beyond to help.

“Scottish Borders Council's message to carers is clear, you make a huge difference in people’s lives and are very much appreciated.”

The carers were invited to afternoon tea and to attend the Buccleuch Cup Race Day thereafter.
