RECENT data from the DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) has revealed that the Kelso Test Centre has become one of the top 20 UK locations where women's pass rates have surpassed those of men in practical car driving tests.

This development highlights the positive shift in the pass rates between male and female drivers, with the national gender gap now narrowed to 4.65%.

Kelso Test Centre ranks 8th on the list, with a female pass rate of 77.4% compared to a male pass rate of 71.1%.

This 6.3% difference highlights the growing trend of female drivers outperforming male drivers in driving tests across the UK.

The national gender gap in driving test pass rates has seen a reduction since 2007, with women's pass rates increasing from 41.3% in 2007/08 to 46.4% in 2022/23, and men's pass rates increasing from 47.3% to 50.3% over the same period.

Sten Saar, CEO of commercial motor insurer and taxi insurance experts, Zego , who analysed the government data, said: "This data reveals an interesting trend.

"The pass rate gender gap is as close as it's ever been. As driver training improves in the UK, driving schools are providing a more tailored learning experience for all would-be drivers."
