POLICE are searching for witnesses after 23,000 litres of oil was taken from a fuel depot in the Borders during an early morning raid.
The incident happened at around 1.45am on Saturday (April 29) at the Newtown St Boswells facility on Earlston Road, say police.
Officers believe those responsible used hoses to steal the kerosene heating oil and may have taken a route from the A68 through a field, wooded area and up an embankment to reach the tanks.
Detective Sergeant Bruce Dodds said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to find those responsible and we are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious near the depot to get in touch.
“We are also asking anyone who saw people acting strangely on the nearby A68 to get in touch, especially if you saw any vehicles parked or saw items being loaded onto a vehicle.
“In addition, if you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could assist our enquiries then please call us.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3178 of Saturday, April 29, 2023, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
