A BORDERS charity has donated £400 to a Galashiels pub to help with its defibrillator appeal.

Youngsters from the TD1 Youth Hub recently presented the cash to Pamela Kelly, of The Salmon Inn, Bank Street.

With the support of Galashiels Academy and the wider community, money was raised by the young people who held a lucky squares fundraiser and sold bags of sweet treats at their recent Easter Family Fun Day.

Stephanie Anderson, youth development co-ordinator at TD1 Youth Hub, said: "On learning of The Salmon Inn's appeal to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator for the town centre of Galashiels we at TD1 Youth Hub were eager to get involved in supporting our local community.

“Our fundraising efforts not only raised a substantial amount of money for a great cause, but also provided invaluable opportunities for our young people to positively engage with and make a real difference to the community in which they live."

The team at The Salmon Inn and Helen Calder, who is leading on the project, said: "We are thrilled that TD1 Youth Hub chose to fundraise for the new town defibrillator.

“Everyone involved did a great job and should be proud of what they achieved. We look forward to making further announcements about the launch of the defibrillator and a free familiarisation session soon."
