A PEEBLES man who used his mother’s bank to withdraw cash sums over a seven-month period has been fined £500 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Forty-nine-year-old Scott Confrey pleaded guilty to theft on various occasions between January and August 2021 at Sainsbury’s in Peebles.

Procurator fiscal Alasdair Fay said the total value of money he was not entitled to take from his mother’s account was in the region of £800.

Confrey’s lawyer said the council worker had paid back the money which had been stolen.

In addition to the fine he was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
