SCOTTISH Borders Council (SBC) has been forced to cancel more food waste collections in Peebles this week because of a shortage of vehicles.

It follows on from a number of recent SBC collection routes being impacted by breakdowns which resulted in missed pick-ups in some areas.

That issue largely affected the Galashiels and Tweedbank areas but also some parts of Peebles too.

The latest cancellation occurred on Wednesday (May 17) and resulted in 11 areas of Peebles not having their waste food collected.

A SBC spokesperson said: “Due to a shortage of collection vehicles we have been unable to carry out the food waste collections scheduled for Wednesday in Peebles.

“We are working to bring in replacement vehicles as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.

“Please can residents bring their food waste bin back in. If you run out of space in your food waste bin, unfortunately we must advise you to place any extra food waste in your general waste bin.

“We appreciate that this is not ideal but ensures residents have a disposal option if they have run out of capacity.”

The following areas of Peebles were impacted: South Park, Caledonian Road, Frankscroft, Chambers Terrace, Edderston Road, Old Town, Cross Road, Young Street, Rosetta Road, March Street, Connor Street.

On Monday, food waste was only partially collected in Tweedbank and parts of Gala, including Langlee, Melrose Gait and Coppersknowe, as the result of vehicle breakdown.
