TWO areas along a major Borders road are set to be closed to make way for resurfacing works.

The A7 will close for a total of three night in Selkirk and Hawick to allow for workers to improve the road's surface.

In Selkirk the A7 will be resurfaced at Russell Place, and in Hawick the road will be resurfaced at Galalaw Roundabout on Friday, June 2, Monday, June 5, and Tuesday, June 6.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: "We’re pleased to be able to carry out these surfacing improvements on the A7 in Selkirk and Hawick.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road while work is taking place, however we’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption.

“If you do need to use the A7 on these nights, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.”

On June 2, the A7 will be closed from Kingsknowe Roundabout to Selkirk from 7.30pm-6am.

On June 5-6 the road will close between Selkirk and Hawick from 7.30pm-6am each night.

Diversions will be in place over the course of the closures.

For the June 2 closure, motorists will be asked to follow diversions signposted between Kingsknowe Roundabout and Selkirk via the A6091, A68 and A699.

This diversion will add approximately 9.5 miles and 12 minutes to affected journeys.

And on June 5-6 the diversion will take drivers via the A698, A68 and A699.

This diversion will add approximately 13.7 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.

Local access will be granted for emergency vehicles at all times, and for local residents access will be given when it is safe to pass through.
