A BORDERS music group has marked a major milestone with a special concert.

The Riddell Fiddles celebrated its 20th anniversary with an event at the Heart of Hawick earlier this month.

And members are already looking ahead to the next two decades.

On Saturday, May 13, the Heart of Hawick was packed with supporters from around the Borders.

Sheila Sapkota, organiser of the Riddell Fiddles, said: “The players themselves were outstanding and the youthful Burnfoot Buskers started the show off in such style.

“With two youth groups in Hawick and Selkirk and a thriving main band Riddell Fiddles looks all set for another 20 years.

“Donald Knox’s wonderful arrangements of tunes learnt the world over – on our various jaunts – resounded out through the Heart of Hawick.

“Well done to all involved.”

The event at the Heart of Hawick was also filmed by Frank Brown.

As well as teaching people of all ages to play the fiddle, the Riddell Fiddles also provide the opportunity for its musicians to play for a variety of audiences – whether in the square in Melrose, in the new community space in Selkirk, at local venues such as MacArts in Galashiels, or further afield like Barbados and Canada.
