SEVERAL of the Gala Fairydean Rovers cup winning squad have left the club for pastures new.

And chairman Ryan Cass has thanked them all for their commitment during last season which was the most successful in the Lowland League club’s 10-year history.

Defender Gregor Jordan and midfielder Ciaren Chalmers have both joined fellow Lowland League side Cowdenbeath.

Right back Callum Hall and midfielder Lewis Hall will also leave, along with on loan players Quinn Mitchell (Edinburgh City) Gospel Ocholi (Partick Thistle) Ruairidh Adams (Dundee United) and Gregor Nicol (Queens Park) who will all return to their parent clubs. Sean Docherty is due to go on trial to East Fife.

Meanwhile manager Martin Scott has been busy securing replacements and Cass believes that the GFR philosophy and the way they play football has allowed the club to recruit top class replacements.

Former Hibs goalkeeper Jay Cantley who was previously at League One Airdrie and Falkirk is due to join up next week once his current deal with Stenhousemuir expires.

The 20-year-old had been at the Ochilview Park club since July last year.

Adam Watson, 24, is back for a second stint at Netherdale having previously played there on loan from Hibs under-20s from 2016 to 2018. Since then he has played for FC Edinburgh and Tranent Juniors.

The Semple brothers, striker Jamie 22, who previously played at Motherwell, East Fife, Cove Rangers as well as playing for Scotland at under-17 to under-19 level and defender Kyle 19 who was also on ‘Well’s books have both joined form Open Goal Broomhill.

Cass is hopeful that at least one more permanent signing is on the cards and other loan deals are expected.

Cass said: “I’d like to thank all the departing players for their commitment to the club this past season. These players are all legends for making history by bringing the East of Scotland Cup to Netherdale and I can’t thank them enough.

“So far we have brought in four new players and I believe that is credit to Jimmy, (Martin Scott), Stevie (Craig) and Coco (Colin McCall) for being able to attract that standard of player to the club.

“Gala Fairydean Rovers is the right club to develop these players and will provide a pathway for them to return to the top leagues in future.”
