BERWICKSHIRE will soon have its own official flag after a competition was launched to come up with a suitable design.

Members of the public are invited to create a flag design which encapsulates all that is best about the historic county.

An assessment panel of representatives from across the community, including the Lord Lieutenancy of Berwickshire, as well as the Flag Institute and the Lyon Court, will choose a final set of designs to be put to a public vote.

The public vote will be held through a combination of physical, postal and online voting in September.

The winner will be announced by the beginning of October, once the design is registered in the Lyon Court’s Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland and the Flag Institute’s UK Flag Registry.

Individuals, schools and other groups are invited to create proposals in line with the competition terms and conditions. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, July 30.

Members of the public are encouraged to look at design guidelines to help  with submissions in any A5 or A4 format preferred.

When you are ready, you can fill in an entry form, either online or a hard copy, and send it with your design.
