Elliot Fraser, Selkirk’s 1988 Royal Burgh Standard Bearer, passed away in May.

A collection taken at Elliot’s cremation service raised £850, and this money will now be used to support the activities of British Horseracing's official charity, Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), in the Borders.

RoR’s regional development officer, Aileen Firth, said: “Elliot was a member of racing syndicates with local trainer Stuart Coltherd, himself an ex-Royal Burgh Standard Bearer.

“Perhaps the most interesting horse was a fabulous mare called Midlem Melody, who ran 47 times and had six wins.

“I was also a founding member of that syndicate, and following Elliot’s untimely death it’s wonderful that money donated by Elliot’s family and friends is being donated to assist with Retraining of Racehorses’ important work in the Scottish Borders.”
