A POPULAR Galashiels café celebrated its 30th anniversary on Saturday.
And four generations of the original owner’s family were there to join in the celebrations along with former staff members.
Annie McCall opened Annie’s Café in September 1993 and ran the business until her retirement in 1999 when her daughter Gillian took over.

The landmark venue on King Street between the B&Q and Matalan caters for the breakfast and lunch trades.
Now 78, Annie returned to the café which still bears her name and enjoyed some well-deserved homemade cake and a cup of tea.
She said: “I have so many happy memories working here and I made so many friends. I used to run a canteen but when I saw this building was up for sale, I decided to go for it and the rest is history.
“It’s been a long time and I’d do it all again. I have no regrets and it’s so great to see the family all involved.”

Gillian said: “I’ve worked here basically since it opened and took over from my mum after she retired. She loved working in the café and Saturday was an emotional day.
“We’ve had so many staff over the years so it’s impossible to mention them all but it was great to see Hazel (Fulton) and Lily (Dick) back for the anniversary. I’d also like to mention my step-dad Bert McCall for all his hard work.

“It’s been a real family business and my daughters Lucy and Sarah have worked here and my granddaughter Myrren, who is eight, even helped out during COVID and loved it.
“We have had customers who have been coming since the first day and we have a strong passing trade with a lot of HGV drivers.
“One even told me that he had met a fellow driver in Inverness and when he mentioned visiting the Borders his pal recommended us which was nice to hear.”
One future member of staff missed the photo opportunity. Lucy's daughter, Maya, was fast asleep but will no doubt be joining the tradition soon.
