THE A7 is set close overnight in both directions between Hawick and Selkirk for two nights this week to facilitate improved road markings and studs.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as the travelling public the road will be closed from 7.30pm to 6am on Wednesday October 4 and Thursday October 5.

The work will be carried out between the B6359 Appletree to Galalaw Roundabout and the C13 Clerklands to A699 St Boswells.

Diversion signs will be in place to assist drivers.

Road users are advised to leave the A7 at Hawick or Selkirk and follow the A698, A68 and A699.

This diversion will add approximately 13.7 miles and 20 minutes onto affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
