The A1 is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with a total of eleven nights of resurfacing scheduled from Wednesday October 11 to Wednesday  October 25, with no work planned on Saturday or Sunday nights.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland carry out resurfacing works on a 1km section of the A1, south of the Cockburnspath roundabout.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the A1 will be closed in both directions from 7.30pm until 6am each night on October 11-13, 16-20 and 23-25.

A signed diversion route will be in place from Cockburnspath roundabout via Edinburgh Road, adding 0.3 miles and 1 minute to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times and all traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly enhance the driving experience for motorists.

“We’ve scheduled the works to take place at night and the diversion is short one so we don’t expect these works to cause significant disruption.”

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot or on Twitter/X at @trafficscotland.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
