A MAN slashed the tyres of a vehicle after being involved in an early morning bust-up at a house in Skeldons Brae in Eyemouth.

Aidan Vernel, prosecuting, told Jedburgh Sheriff Court 35-year-old Richard Smith was drinking with a couple at around 2am on July 22 when he began complimenting the woman on her appearance and looks.

The man, who was in a relationship with her, took exception to this, demanded he leave and forcibly ejected him from the property.

Smith from Eyemouth was shouting and swearing outside the property and police were contacted.

Mr Vernel said that at around 4.25am the couple looked out of their window and saw Smith walk up to the woman's car and slash the tyres of the vehicle.

Defence lawyer Liam Burke said it was the first time his client had consumed alcohol in 10 years and the offence was "out of character".

Sheriff Peter Paterson said he was going to defer sentence for six months for good behaviour to allow Smith to save up £200 compensation to pay for the car damage and to show he was genuinely remorseful.

He said if Smith did that he would deal with the matter by fine.

The case will recall on April 22.
