HAWICK folk have rallied in support of a family jewellers after the town business was relaunched following the death of its beloved founder earlier this year.

Hamish D. Smith established his independent family firm in 1972, selling quality jewellery and watches.

Known not only for his skills as a craftsman but also his kindly manner, Hamish’s Bourtree Place premises was one of the town’s most popular and distinctive retail outlets.

His death in June was met with outpourings of sadness and many tributes.

Now his name and his legacy is living on after his daughter, Janie Mallin, together with the help of Hamish’s wife, Sylvia, took it over.

And his family has been bolstered at the support they have received from people both near and far.

Janie said: “We have been truly overwhelmed by the support we have received from you all.

“Thank you to the people of Hawick and further afield, your continued support means more than you know.”

The family business stocks a large range of silver, white gold and yellow gold jewellery and several watch brands including Citizen, Bulova and Sekonda. It also sells items such as tankards, quaichs and cuff links available.

Janie said: “We cater to all budgets and are often able to source items should you require something specific that we don’t have in stock. We also still offer our full repair and engraving service including ring sizing.

“Hamish’s trademark was his Hawick horse pendants and other unique hand made pieces. We are able to provide silver versions of his designs; Hamish had a large portfolio of pieces that can be viewed on request in store and a selection of pendants are already available to purchase.”

In response, the family have had many messages of support on Facebook, one person posting: “You are going to do an amazing job and making your dad proud.”
