THE Hawick Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) is seeking artists, makers, or craftspeople to deliver a co-created community art project that celebrates the unique heritage of Hawick.

Hawick CARS is a partnership project developed with Scottish Borders Council and Historic Environment Scotland, offering grant support towards the repair works of traditional buildings (pre-1919) to conservation standards, as well as supporting complementary initiatives to increase understanding of the town’s rich heritage and promotion of traditional skills.

The residency will be over 12 months, starting in February 2024 and concluding in March 2025, providing an opportunity to develop new connections and learn about the impact of heritage on communities.

Artists and makers of any discipline are encouraged to apply, and the successful candidate must be based within easy travelling distance of Hawick to ensure a good connection to the local area.

Councillor Scott Hamilton, Executive Member for Community and Business Development, said: “This residency presents a fantastic opportunity for community groups and local residents to work together in collaboration with the artist to craft a project that both acknowledges and highlights the rich history and heritage of the town.
