DERELICT pigsties in Duns are to be demolished to make way for a new holiday home.
A planning bid has been approved by Scottish Borders Council (SBC) for a holiday let accommodation on garden ground east of a residential property known as The Old Cottages.
In his report approving the application, Cameron Kirk, SBC’s assistant planning officer, says: “The application site relates to derelict pigsties. The walls of the former pigsties are now in a ruinous state and the site has become naturalised.
“Planning permission is sought to demolish the ruins of an existing pigsties and erect a holiday let. The proposed holiday let accommodation would have an L-shaped plan and it would be of a single storey. The accommodation would include a living, dining, kitchen area, bedroom and shower room.
“The proposed holiday let accommodation would be constructed on the footprint of the existing pigsties. This approach is welcomed as it would make use of a brownfield site.”
