NHS Borders charity The Difference held their annual switch on ceremony for the Christmas tree on Tuesday night December 5 at the Borders General Hospital as part of their annual Tree of Light campaign.

Karen Hamilton, NHS Borders Chair and Trustee of The Difference acted as host, welcoming everyone and paying thanks to those who had contributed to the ceremony and the Tree of Light 2023. The honour of switching on the lights was given to Sarah Grandison and Louise Fagan (pictured) who were representing the Major Trauma Team who were finalists at this year’s Scottish Health Awards.

The event also featured the Health in Harmony Choir, who gave a performance of Noel Nouvelet before leading everyone in some carols to round off the ceremony.

The Tree of Light campaign runs until the end of December and is still open for dedications. Dedications can be made in memory of a loved one, to celebrate someone special or to thank those who have made a difference to you.

For a small donation you can make a dedication and post a photo of who you wish to thank or celebrate. The Difference will send you a handcrafted decoration (while stocks last) which is yours to gift to those you are thanking or celebrating, or can be kept to honour those you have lost.

We would like to thank Galashiels crafting group, “Crafty Dafties” who for the second year have kindly given their time and materials to provide the decorations.

All donations made to The Difference are used to help make the difference to patient care in the Borders by supporting projects and initiatives across our region that enhance services or improve patient experience.
