BACKGROUND reports have been ordered in the case of a 30-year-old man who admitted assaulting a man in a Galashiels nightclub with a glass bottle.

Craig Cessford, formerly of Earlston but who gave an address in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, pleaded guilty to striking the man on the head with the bottle at Indigo Rooms on October 16, 2022.

He also admitted possession of an offensive weapon, namely a glass bottle.

Not guilty pleas to charges of police assault and threatening or abusive behaviour were accepted by the Crown.

Sentence was deferred at Selkirk Sheriff Court until March 18 for the production of a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment.

Bail was granted with the special condition that Cessford does not consume alcohol while on bail and must voluntary agree to any request for a road breath test.
