A BROKEN down waste collection vehicle has been blamed for a missed general waste collection today (Monday, February 26).

Properties in Kelso were due to have their general waste bins emptied today.

The broken down vehicle was scheduled to collect general waste in Sunlaws West Lodge, Ladyrig, Softlaw, Spylaw, Wooden, Sprouston, Woodside Drive, Lurdenlaw, Wind Walls, Nottylees and the surrounding areas.

Residents have now been asked to leave their bins out in order for waste staff to collect them within five days.

If a new collection isn't done in the next five days residents are advised that today's rubbish will be collected with the next general waste collection.

A Scottish Borders Council (SBC) spokesperson said: "We are working on arrangements to try to recover the bins as soon as possible.

"Residents and trade waste customers are advised, if we have not returned for the bins within 5 working days to remove their bin from the collection point and in this instance we will collect any extra general waste on the next scheduled collection day.

"Please place extra bagged general waste beside the bin on collection day."

Vehicle breakdowns and shortages were also the cause of missed general waste and recycling collections on February 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, and 15.
