THE Southern Knights have discovered the dates of what could be their final fixtures.

Last month Scottish Rugby announced it would scrap its Super 6 series as part of a major shake-up.

The Super 6 series, designed to be a bridge between the amateur and professional game, was launched five years ago.

But the six clubs – including the Borders-based Knights – will not have their licences renewed beyond November.

The 2024 FOSROC Super Series Sprint will start on Friday, April 19, with six rounds of regular competition played in a traditional league format.

The teams will then play a seventh round of final fixtures on the second weekend in June with these play-offs determining the final standings of the competition.

The Knights start by hosting Edinburgh Rugby A.

They play at home twice more against Boroughmuir Bears and Watsonians before travelling to face Ayrshire Bulls.

They then face an away trip at Heriot’s Rugby before welcoming Stirling Wolves to the Greenyards.

A Knights spokesperson said: “Accepting Scottish Rugby’s decision to disband the Super Series competition as part of the newly announced male performance pathway, the Southern Knights remain focused on preparing for the upcoming Sprint Season.

“Pre-season training is well under way at the Greenyards, with a number of key players from the Championship season returning to the Southern Knights squad. Boosted by the recruitment of some new emerging talent within the Borders, the squad is shaping up to be an exciting blend of youth and experience, which we look forward to seeing take the field during the Sprint Season.

“Alongside the squad’s preparation for the Sprint Season, the Southern Knights are also working closer with the Borders FOSROC Scottish Rugby regional academy to support the development of young players in the region.

“As part of the strategic alignment, members of the Academy have been joining the Southern Knights squad training on a Monday night throughout pre-season.

“Although there remains to be uncertainty surrounding the conclusion of Super Series rugby, our immediate focus is to continue to build momentum as we move closer to the beginning of the Sprint Season

“We will ensure to communicate any information relating to the Southern Knights and the Super Series, as and when it is released by Scottish Rugby.

“For further announcements regarding the coaching group, playing squad and Sprint Season fixtures, please stay tuned via the Southern Knights’ website and social media channels.”
