THE Southern Knights have confirmed their coaching group ahead of next month’s FOSROC Super Series Sprint.

The coaching group of Scott Wight, Iain Chisholm and James Head will be overseen by head of rugby Rob Moffat.

Wight continues in his role as attack coach of the team. The club said that the former Scotland 7s captain was looking to build on the success of the attack from last year’s championship competition.

Current Melrose head coach and South of Scotland assistant Chisholm will transition into the role of Southern Knights defence coach following the conclusion of the Inter-District Championship.

Former Southern Knights player Head returns to the Greenyards as forwards coach. Building on his recent experience of coaching premiership side Selkirk, Head’s role will have a strong focus on the set piece.

Commenting on preparation for the upcoming series, Moffat said: “There has been a real air of excitement amongst both the coaching and playing group. We are delighted to have three really enthusiastic coaches, who have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the squad can hit the ground running when the Sprint comes round in April.”

The Southern Knights thanked departing head coach Alan Tait and forwards coach Lewis Carmichael for their commitment over the last few seasons.

The Knights’ campaign kicks off with a home game against Edinburgh ‘A’ on Friday, April 19.

Earlier this year Scottish Rugby announced it would scrap the contest as part of a major shake-up.
