THE WORK of community police officers was praised during a Peebles meeting.

Presenting his police report at Peebles Community Council last Thursday, Malcolm Bruce said that at the opening ceremony for the teen shelter he chatted with a couple of police constables.

In his report Mr Bruce said: “For all of the critics out there who do nothing but castigate our police officers can I just say, try spending a day in their shoes.

“I am always impressed by our local PC’s knowledge of what is happening in the community, who is up to no good and importantly what they can do about it, legally.

“All of the online and ‘pub talk’ commentary about how anti-social and other juvenile criminal behaviour should be dealt with is often so far from what is actually possible.

“You will all be aware of tragic local events recently, this is a day in the life of a PC.

“Maybe we should remember that before we jump too quickly to judgement.”
