A GREENLAW man caught with a Polaroid picture of a girl aged 13 in a state of undress has been placed on the sex offenders register for 12 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Thirty-six-year-old Ricky Clift, of Templar Court, pleaded guilty to possessing an indecent image of a child at a house in Kelso between December 2022 and March last year.

The photo had been found in a wallet contained in a box and reported to the police by a concerned relative.

Clift claimed he had intended to raise the subject of the photograph in an appropriate manner with the teenager’s mother but had forgotten about it.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said it was a peculiar case with an odd set of circumstances.

In addition to making him subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act, the sheriff ordered Clift to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
