A GALASHIELS youth work group has paid tribute to a former police officer at its awards night.

Police Constable Sean Wright passed away at Borders General Hospital after taking ill at his home in 2023.

The popular policeman gave great support to TD1 Youth Hub during his time with the force.

And the inaugural PC Sean Wright Memorial Award was presented to Ethan Painter at the group’s AGM this month.

The prize will be given annually to a young person from the Galashiels area who exemplifies positive values and serves as a role model for their peers.

Reece Wyllie and Jessica Little were also nominated for the accolade.

A total of 24 youngsters picked up prizes at the awards ceremony.

Roughly 60 community members attended the AGM to learn about the organisation’s work, including the launch of their annual report.

TD1 Youth Hub offers a variety of free activities for young people aged 10-26 in the Galashiels area, including Tweedbank, Stow and Clovenfords.

They include evening drop-in sessions, support groups for young parents, detached street work, one-on-one support and diversionary activities.

The annual report is available to download from the TD1 Youth Hub website.

Physical copies can also be obtained by contacting TD1 Youth Hub directly.
