THE 30th anniversary of Jedburgh’s twinning with a town in north-western France is to be marked in style later this year.
The landmark anniversary will be celebrated over four days in September when visitors from the Breton town of Malestroit arrive in the Borders.
Members of Jedburgh Common Good Sub-Committee agreed a funding request of £1,524 towards the cost of the visit.
A twinning spokesperson said: “The annual exchanges between Jedburgh and Malestroit have an educational impact on all who take part.
“The pandemic took a heavy toll on the twinning, and this is the first visit to Jedburgh since 2019, though a small group went to Malestroit last year.
“We are refreshing our membership lists of those willing to host or help, and this anniversary visit, involving many more people than usual, will help us to create new links between the schools, sports, arts and heritage groups from the twin towns, through the opportunities made possible by this project.”
