A FOOTBALL funding request being pitched to members of a Scottish Borders Council committee next week is set for the green light

Leithen Vale Sports Club has requested £4,683 for a set of 11-a-side football goals, corner flags and a storage unit for their new pitch.

The club has 30 young people playing football with them.

But with competing groups using the pitches both in Innerleithen and Peebles, it has become difficult to source adequate grounds for their training and games.

The ground of the current pitch is showing signs of overuse and weather damage so having an additional pitch would alleviate additional pressure on the grounds.

It is hoped with the addition of a second pitch at ‘The Wetlands’ at St Ronan’s Primary School, the club will have a readily available facility to use.

When members of Tweeddale Area Partnership meet on Tuesday (June 11) they will be recommended to approve the cash support.

A funding panel felt the project was “worthwhile and would ensure the continuation of their young people enjoying football in Innerleithen”.
