A WOMAN has been charged in connection with vandalism at a Conservative general election candidate’s office in the Borders.
The woman was stopped by police near Hawick High Street following the incident at John Lamont’s base in the town.
Slogans – including ‘free Palestine’, ‘blood on your hands’ and ‘you don’t represent us’ – were daubed in red paint on the office.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30am on Tuesday (July 2), officers on patrol stopped a woman near the High Street in Hawick.
“She was arrested and charged in connection with vandalism at a business premises and released to appear in court at a later date.”
Mr Lamont, who is hoping to be returned as the for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk MP for a third consecutive time, said he would continue campaigning.
The other candidates standing in that constituency are: David Wilson (SNP), Ray Georgeson (Liberal Democrats); Caitlin Stott (Labour), Neil Mackinnon (Greens), Carolyn Grant (Reform), Ellie Merton (Independent); Hamish Goldie-Scot (Scottish Family Party).
