A SELF-EMPLOYED fencer from Jedburgh has been banned from the road for 12 months at the town’s sheriff court after admitting a drink driving offence.
Thirty-four-year-old Jonathan Field, of Lothian Road, pleaded guilty to driving with a breath/alcohol count of 66 microgrammes – the legal limit being 22 – at The Glebe in Ancrum on January 7.
He also admitted driving with no insurance or licence.
Prosecutor India McLean said Field had been drinking at a friend’s house and was due to stay the night at a friend’s house.
But when the friend went downstairs at 1am he noticed his car was missing and contacted police.
Ms Mclean continued: “The police traced the car and there was damage to the front of the bar with the bumper hanging off.
“Mr Field was later traced and was intoxicated. He claimed he did not know what the police were talking about relating to the car.”
Field was taken to the police station and was cautioned and charged and made no reply.
His lawyer said her client had a few drinks and used the vehicle to get home which was “regrettable”.
He was banned from the road for 12 months and fined a total of £700 for the three offences with a £40 victim surcharge added.
