SCOTTISH Borders Council employees with service totalling 3,500 years have been recognised.
Over recent weeks the local authority has rewarded the service of staff members by presenting certificates for service ranging from 15 to over 35 years.
It included Helen Porteous, from the council’s business support section, who is about to retire after 50 years of service.
At a council meeting, the local authority's convener, councillor Watson McAteer, said: “Colleagues, it is quite incredible that this relatively small group of staff have cumulatively served the people of the Borders for 3,500 years – that’s a long shift.
“I would like to acknowledge our thanks and appreciation for all they have done and continue to do.”
